Chicago, Summer 2008-

Second City Improv/Sketch Comedy Workshops

South Plantation High School's theater department was honored with an invitation to apply to the American High School Theater Festival for consideration to peform at the Fringe Festival held annually in Edinburgh Scotland.

Unfortunately, with the devaluation of the dollar overseas, the increased cost of travel due to rising gas prices, and the fact that the Broward School district had declined to sponsor the trip, directors Jason Zembuch and Michelle Terl, in consultation with FOTT and other parents, decided to decline this invitation. Instead, a domestic summer trip was planned.

The final destination? A trip to Chicago where, over the course of two weeks, thirteen students participated in theater workshops run by the reknown Second City improvisation group, the theater group that gave birth to Saturday Night Live! The first week the focus was on improvisational comedy. The second week they developed their talents in sketch comedy.

This was an exceptional opportunity for these students and looks great on the resumes of those students planning to pursue a career in the performing arts. FOTT will be updating this page soon with stories and photographs from the trip so check back with us!
