The Paladin Playhouse presents...

Shrek 500

Everyone’s favorite fairytale stories might all have beautiful princesses being whisked away by handsome, charismatic knights in armor – but not this one. South Plantation High School’s drama department presents their spring production Shrek, the Musical with all the glories of gassy green ogres, annoying talking donkeys, and neurotically bipolar princesses.

A musical adaptation of the 2001 DreamWorks movie Shrek starring Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, the theatrical performance features one ogre’s conquest for peace after discovering a ragtag group of pesky fairytale creatures had claimed his land under the decree of Lord Farquaad. He leaves his land with a bitter hatred for the world, but little does he know he will be discovering something much more important – true love.

For the past nine years, South Plantation High School has been known for producing shows in the style of Theatre for the Deaf, interpreting every show for our deaf and hard of hearing audiences. Actors onstage will be accompanied by a group of interpreters, essentially presenting two different performances on the same stage at the same exact time.

In conjunction with each performance, the drama department will be raising funds to help offset medical costs for Sophia Cohen, the two year old the granddaughter of a teacher at the school, who has been diagnosed with Stage IV Rhabdomyosarcoma, which has spread to her liver, kidneys, and stomach lining. Help support South Plantation High School’s efforts to help a family in their fight against cancer.

Enjoy a show and support a worthy cause and see South Plantation High School’s rendition of Shrek, the Musical!

Paladin Players SHRAVE Heads In Support of Cancer Warrior

SophiaApril 21, 2014- Sophia Cohen is your typical two year old with one exception. Sophia has been diagnosed with stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma. This is a rare cancer which has made its way into her kidney, liver and stomach lining and requires expensive treatment.

Sophia's grandmother, Dianne Feraco, works at South Plantation High School and when theater director Jason Zembuch learned of Sophia's plight and the exorbitant costs of treatment, he immediately knew that the Paladin Players had to do SOMETHING. That something? Well, we hosted a good ole' fashoned "Shraving"!

What is a "shraving" you might ask. Well, in the spirit of our upcoming production of Dreamworks' "Shrek, The Musical" and our desire to send a message of unity to Sophia and her family, we held a "head shaving" or "Shraving" on Monday, April 21 at 3pm in the Paladin Playhouse.

Our own Jason Zembuch once again lead by example by being one of the first heads to be "shraved". Others soon followed to express their solidarity with Sophia and the war against cancer. All "shraving" was done by professionals, courtesy of Jacqueline Lee at Naturally Beautiful You (located at 1830 N. University Drive in Plantation).

CBS-4, BECON-TV and the Miami Herald came out to cover the event with CBS-4 airing a segment that same evening on the 6pm news. The event was open to the public but we asked for donations of any amount, all of which are to be forwarded directly to the Cohen family to help them pay for Sophia's cancer treatment.

If you were unable to attend the "shraving" but would still like to help Sophia and her family, they have a "Go Fund Me" account online were you can make a secure, online donation. Click here to go there.

Paladin Players Raise Money for 2 Year Old Cancer Warrior

The Friends of the Theatre is proud to share that over the run of "Shrek, The Musical", the Paladin Players was able to raise $3500.00 to help the Cohen family. Their daughter, Sophia Cohen, is the grand daughter of Dianne Feraco, a reading teacher at South Plantation High School. Sophia has been diagnosed with stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma. This is a rare cancer which has made its way into her kidney, liver and stomach lining and requires expensive treatment. The money is to be used to help pay for her treatment and medication. The FOTT would like to thank all our theater patrons who gave so generously at each intermission as well as those students who attended and donated at the "shraving" in order to help little Sophia. We are so proud of our theater community. Thank you. And please keep Sophia and her family in your prayers.
