About the Friends of the Theater
Our Mission
The SPHS Friends of the Theater is a parent booster club for the nationally recognized, award winning performing arts program at South Plantation High School. Our mission is to enhance the value of education of the arts for both the hearing and hearing impaired through community involvement and parental participation.
We were incorporated under the name South Plantation Friends of the Theater in 2006 to support theater arts and education at South Plantation High School, located in Broward County, Florida.
What We Do
Our organization and it's volunteers support the SPHS theater program in many ways including:
- Fundraising
- Awards Scholarships
- Organize and staff concessions for performances
- Providing transporation to students as needed
- Purchasing meals for rehearsals (from monies provided by the students)
- Assist in buiding sets
- Assisting the theatre directors whenever possible
Scholarships
$4,000 in scholarships are awarded every year!
The South Plantation High School Friends of the Theater takes great pride in being able to award four scholarships of $1,000 each to South Plantation High School seniors enrolled in the theater program. Candidates must:
- Be a senior at SPHS
- Be an active participant in the SPHS theater program
- Have been inducted into the International Thespian Society
- Maintain a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.0
- Submit an essay on one of the topics indicated on the application.
Four individual $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded.
Deadline for application and essay submitted, in a sealed envelope, to Director Nicolette Trivlis by April 29, 2024.
Recipients need not pursue a degree in theater but they must attend an accredited institution such as a community college, technical school, college or university.
The scholarship winners will be announced at the Senior Awards Banquet.

We are thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2024 South Plantation High School Friends of the Theater scholarships! These scholarships recognize the exceptional talent, dedication, and hard work of our students in the performing arts. This year, we are proud to award seven scholarships to our outstanding theater students.
Friends of the Theater Scholarships:
Our Friends of the Theater Scholarships, each worth $1,000, have been awarded to four students who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment and excellence in theater arts. Congratulations to:

The Austin Wasserman Memorial Scholarship:
The Austin Wasserman Memorial Scholarship, named in honor of our beloved alumnus, is awarded to a student who exemplifies the spirit and passion that Austin brought to our theater community. This year’s recipient of $1000.00 is:

The Patricia and Ralph Cook Scholarship:
Named for the very first theater teacher at South Plantation High School and her husband, the $500.00 Patricia and Ralph Cook Scholarship is awarded to a student who has shown remarkable growth and potential in the performing arts. This year, we congratulate:

New for 2024: UPS African American Business Resource Group Scholarship:
We are excited to introduce a new scholarship this year, the $500.00 UPS African American Business Resource Group Scholarship. This scholarship aims to support and encourage African American students in the performing arts. We are proud to award the first recipient of this scholarship to:

Paladin Playhouse Troup 3383 Alumni Scholarship
Among the scholarships awarded at last night's Theater Banquet was the Patricia and Ralph Cook Scholarship. This $500.00 scholarship is available because of the generous contributions from members of the Paladin Playhouse Troup 3383 Alumni Association.
This year‘s winner was Daley Eisenmann, an amazing student who has overcome so many obstacles in her young life only to rise above and flourish in the Paladin Playhouse.
Congratulations Daley and thank you to the Paladin Playhouse Alumni Association for making this gift possible. Once a Paladin, Always a Paladin!
